Austin W Shurtliff was born and raised in Taylor, a small town in Northern British Columbia, Canada near the start of the Alaska Highway. He has always loved drawing, but did not consider it as a career until High School. After serving a mission for the LDS church in California, he began taking art classes at BYU-Idaho. In the spring of 2013 Austin completed a BA in Studio Arts emphasizing in Illustration. Since then he has illustrated the covers of two independently published novels, and is in the process of finishing his first picture book.

Austin’s work is primarily digital, but he loves to mix it with traditional painting mediums by printing and transferring his digital line to illustration board and then painting it with watercolor. His main line technique is a digital version of a scratchboard, done in Photoshop.
Currently, Austin and his wife and two sons live in Globe Arizona where he teaches commercial art part-time at both the local high school and community college.
